Counselling / Psychotherapy

People may decide to come for counselling and psychotherapy for a myriad of different reasons. Often a crisis or life changing event can be the catalyst and individuals can present with a wide variety of issues or personal problems. Regardless of the issue, the common thread among most clients is a person in pain seeking to find answers and discover who they truly are. Carl Rogers, the founder of person-centred therapy discovered that we have an actualising tendency; that is a strong instinct to move beyond our pain and become the best version of ourselves. We have the urge and desire to expand, extend, develop, and mature, and await only the proper conditions to be released and expressed (Rogers, 1961).

I will meet you exactly where you are at. Through empathy and understanding I will learn to see the world through your eyes. I will help you examine unhelpful behaviours, in a safe, calm, non-judgemental setting. Together we can explore where and when these behaviours developed. We can work towards finding healthier ways to respond to triggering situations. Oftentimes, the coping behaviours we develop in childhood become the problematic behaviours in adulthood. Awareness through exploration is the beginning of real, effective, and long-lasting change.

People often put up a false wall or persona that they work very hard to maintain. They fear that if this is not maintained they may be overcome by the intensity of the feelings behind it. However, through careful exploration of these feelings in a safe setting we can begin to let go of the past and discover unknown parts of our psyche that will add to the richness of who we really are. When we begin to explore these different parts of our psyche we can move beyond the ego and connect with our true authentic self.

Carl Rogers

Growth occurs when individuals confront problems, struggle to master them, and through that struggle develop new aspects of their skills, capacities, views about life.

Reiki is also much more than a method of healing the physical body. Once it has been integrated into our daily lives, it opens the heart to experience a unity with the divine and to reconnect us with the eternal oneness of all creation

Eleanor McKenzie

Reiki

Reiki is a safe, natural, and holistic way of treating many conditions and bringing about physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. It is a very gentle tool of empowerment and transformation. ‘Rei’ means universal transcendental spirit and ‘Ki’ means life force energy, light, prana, or chi. Reiki is the channelling of this energy from one human being to another. The Reiki practitioner channels this energy through their hands to the recipient, which then activates their own body’s natural ability to heal. It goes to the deepest levels of a person, where the illness has its origins. It can release blocked energy, cleanse the body of toxins, and bring the body back into a state of balance. Reiki has a profoundly healing effect on the recipient if they are open to receiving it, otherwise the energy will not be drawn in. It goes to where the energy is needed most, the healing can therefore be physical, emotional, or spiritual in nature. It can be used as a tool to improve personal health, personal relationships and personal empowerment and enlightenment. Reiki has the power to reunite the trinity of body, mind, spirit to their optimal state. Eleanor McKenzie describes it as “a way to start taking the journey home”.

Reiki treatments are safe, natural, and suitable for everyone. It is never a substitute for conventional medicine but can work well in conjunction with other forms of medication and healing treatments. It can be viewed as a tonic or pick-me-up to boost natural healing and realign the body back to its optimal state.

The Five Spiritual Principles of Reiki

Just for Today do not Worry:

Many people worry about a future that hasn’t yet unfolded. When you worry, you separate yourself from universal wholeness. Just for today, be mindful and present, observe something that causes you worry or concern and simply let it go. Try instead to trust in what is happening and have faith that the world is full of abundance. When you ask for help, trust that divine intelligence will help you. Know that while it may not manifest in the way you imagined, it is all happening in divine and perfect order.

Just for Today do not Anger:

Just for today observe your anger. Notice the people around you that trigger this anger. Know that they are merely mirrors of your own inner world, they reflect aspects of you that you have disowned or chosen to ignore. Rather than express it, become aware of where you feel anger in your body. This is something that needs your attention and requires healing. Have compassion for yourself and the part of you that reacts in anger. Anger hurts you as much as it hurts others; it destroys your inner harmony. Anger is a reaction, and the response is to let it go with compassion and love.

Just for Today Earn a Living Honestly:

When you live your life honestly, you are more closely aligned to your higher self. Being truly honest with yourself and others in all matters helps create a more harmonious life. It creates clarity in all matters. It is important to take personal responsibility and live a life that has a healthy balance between giving and receiving honestly.

Just for Today be Grateful:

Adopting an attitude of gratitude reinforces a sense of being blessed with abundance. Connecting with this energy allows more abundance to flow; like attracts like; what we think about comes about. Be grateful, not only for what you have, but also for what you know, and trust will be provided in your future. Feeling as if you already have it, is the secret to manifesting it into your life.

Just for Today Honour Every Living Thing:

Show respect for every living thing, knowing that we are all connected, we are all from the one source. Honour those who gave you life, even if you have challenging relationships with them. Embracing an attitude of respect is more likely to resolve negative feelings on both sides of the relationship. You can forgive the person without forgetting past actions. Trust that people are placed on your path to teach you lessons, honour the part they play in your journey towards enlightenment. When we show kindness and compassion to someone or something else, we are really honouring, loving, and respecting ourselves.
